Fort Lauderdale-specific notes

LGBTQ+ affirming, without making a big deal of it. Fort Lauderdale — particularly Wilton Manors, Victoria Park, and parts of Oakland Park — has one of the largest per-capita LGBTQ+ populations of any U.S. city. Our clinical approach is simple: intake questions are clinically relevant, not judgmental, and our EMR supports chosen names and pronouns. We treat UTI, BV, yeast, ED, hair loss, and bridge refills the same way regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Sexual-health screening and complex STI management are not our scope — for that, Care Resource, Pride Center at Equality Park, Latinos Salud, and SunServe all run well-regarded Broward-area clinics with LGBTQ-affirming clinicians.

We don't prescribe PrEP — and here's where to get it. PrEP (HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis) requires baseline HIV testing, kidney function labs, and quarterly follow-up testing — a longitudinal care relationship incompatible with our async single-visit model. PrEP is important and well-studied; we just aren't the right provider for it. In Broward, Care Resource operates PrEP clinics in Fort Lauderdale and across the county, Pride Center at Equality Park hosts Test Miami and PrEP-Miami, and Broward Health's sexual wellness clinic serves the area. PrEP itself is available at low or no cost through Ready, Set, PrEP (federal) and manufacturer assistance programs. We can treat unrelated conditions (UTI, yeast, hair loss, ED, bridge refills) for patients who are already on PrEP through another provider.

Pharmacy density is among the best in Florida. Broward County has unusually dense chain pharmacy coverage — Publix, CVS, and Walgreens all operate heavily across the county, and most Broward residents have three or four pharmacy options within a 10-minute drive. In the urban core (Las Olas, Flagler Village, Victoria Park, Wilton Manors), several options are within walking distance. For high-rise residents on Galt Ocean Mile, Las Olas, or Hollywood Beach, CVS and Walgreens locations are embedded in or adjacent to most buildings.

Port Everglades and cruise travelers. Port Everglades is one of the world's busiest cruise ports (Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Holland America, others). Travelers occasionally need last-minute prescription help before boarding — a UTI that started on the flight in, a yeast infection from pool time, a left-behind medication. If you're physically in Florida and an adult, yes we can treat you. The pharmacy network around Port Everglades (CVS and Walgreens on 17th Street Causeway, Federal Highway, Sunrise Boulevard) is minutes from the cruise terminals, so same-day pickup before sailing is realistic. Important caveat: once you sail, you're outside our licensing; we can't follow up with additional prescriptions from international waters. Complete any treatment course before boarding.

Broward's hospital landscape, explained. Three systems dominate. Memorial Healthcare System is the South Broward public hospital district — Memorial Regional (Hollywood), Memorial West (Pembroke Pines), Memorial Miramar, Memorial Pembroke, and Joe DiMaggio Children's. Broward Health is the North Broward public hospital district — Broward Health Medical Center (Fort Lauderdale), Broward Health North (Pompano), Broward Health Coral Springs, and Broward Health Imperial Point. HCA East Florida is the for-profit system — Westside Regional (Plantation), University Hospital (Davie), Northwest Medical Center (Margate), Plantation General. For our $45 telehealth scope, none of these are directly relevant — but they're the right referral destinations if your case needs more than async evaluation.

Fort Lauderdale telehealth FAQ

Does Bidwell Health serve all of Broward County?

Yes — every Broward ZIP: Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, Pompano, Deerfield, Coral Springs, Tamarac, Sunrise, Plantation, Davie, Weston, Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Hollywood, Hallandale. Same $45 flat, same same-day prescriptions.

Is Bidwell Health LGBTQ-affirming?

Yes. Our providers treat patients without bias regarding sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship structure. Intake questions are clinically relevant, not judgmental. Chosen names and pronouns supported in EMR. For specialized LGBTQ primary care, hormone management, or PrEP (we don't prescribe PrEP), Pride Center at Equality Park, Care Resource, and SunServe are well-regarded Broward options.

Does Bidwell Health prescribe PrEP?

No. PrEP requires baseline and quarterly HIV and kidney labs that our async model can't support. In Broward, Care Resource, Pride Center, Latinos Salud, and Broward Health's sexual wellness clinic all offer PrEP access. PrEP is widely available at low or no cost through Ready, Set, PrEP and manufacturer programs.

Can I use Bidwell Health before a cruise out of Port Everglades?

If you're physically in Florida and an adult, yes. Pharmacy density near the port is excellent for same-day pickup. Important: once you sail, you're outside our licensing and we can't provide follow-up prescriptions from international waters. Complete your treatment course before boarding.

Memorial vs Broward Health vs HCA East Florida — what's the difference?

Memorial Healthcare is the South Broward public hospital district. Broward Health is the North Broward public hospital district. HCA East Florida is the for-profit system (Westside Regional, University, Northwest). Not relevant to our telehealth scope but the right referral destinations if your case needs more than async evaluation.

STI rates in Broward — does my intake screen for that?

Yes. STIs can mimic UTI or BV symptoms. Our intake includes targeted questions to flag STI overlap; if your pattern suggests STI rather than uncomplicated UTI/BV, we refer you for in-person testing (Broward County Health Department, Care Resource, Pride Center, or a walk-in lab). Testing is not our scope.
