Online care in Colorado
How can I get cold sore treatment online in Colorado?
Start cold sore visit $45Medication costs extra. No required subscription or video call.
Yes. Adults 18 and older who are physically in Colorado and have a prior oral-herpes or cold-sore diagnosis can request a $45 online visit. A clinician licensed in Colorado reviews your history and prescribes only when appropriate; medication is paid separately at your chosen pharmacy.
Reviewed 7 days a week, including weekends; timing varies.

Choose the right care
A known recurrence or a new problem?
A familiar cold sore during a Colorado trip creates two decisions: whether online treatment fits, and where you can actually obtain medicine. You can request care while visiting Colorado if you meet the clinical requirements and are physically in the state during the visit. A Colorado mailing address is not required, and a hotel address does not replace telling the clinician where you are.
Online review may fit
- You are 18 or older and physically in Colorado.
- A healthcare provider previously diagnosed oral herpes or cold sores.
- This looks like your usual recurrence and you meet the safety limits.
- You can answer follow-up questions through the portal.
An exam or another care pathway
A first or uncertain mouth sore needs an examination. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, significant immune suppression, kidney disease needing adjusted dosing, or an antiviral allergy require another care pathway.
A genital-herpes diagnosis alone does not establish an oral-herpes diagnosis. This visit does not provide new herpes diagnosis or STI testing.
Clear costs
What does cold sore treatment cost in Colorado?
Medication is paid separately to the pharmacy.
Bidwell does not bill insurance for the visit.
For a visitor, compare the complete expense: the $45 review, the pharmacy charge and any delivery fee. Ask a local clinic about its self-pay or insurance options if you need an exam. Paying for an online assessment does not cover a later independent urgent-care visit.
Ask the pharmacy for the price of your exact medicine, strength and prescribed quantity. Cash prices, insurance coverage, discounts, brand availability and delivery fees can differ. The herpes treatment cost guide explains the separate visit and pharmacy charges; its examples are not a quote for your pharmacy.
How does this compare with other care?
| Option | Useful when | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bidwell online visit | A familiar recurrence after a prior diagnosis, within the service limits. | $45 review; separate pharmacy charge; no exam or immediate-fill promise. |
| Primary care or community clinic | You need an exam, continuity of care or broader medical assessment. | Appointment availability, insurance or self-pay cost, and any testing fees. |
| Urgent care | You need a prompt in-person assessment and your usual office is unavailable. | Services offered, availability and complete visit charges. |
| Another online service | You are comparing a different consultation format or treatment scope. | Who reviews the visit, diagnosis limits, subscription terms and total charges. |
For emergencies, seek emergency care. Do not choose a routine service based on price.
Useful local resources
Colorado care when you are away from your usual clinician
Find an examination near where you are staying
If the sore is new or different, start with a medical or dental examination rather than assuming it is a familiar cold sore. The CMS listing for Colorado's community health network identifies the state primary-care association as a resource for finding health centers. You can also search the federal health-center map by your current Colorado ZIP code.
Call the actual clinic before making a trip. Explain whether the problem is a blister on the lip, an ulcer inside the mouth or swelling. Ask if it offers the type of examination you need, whether it accepts new patients and how it charges for the visit. A directory listing does not establish same-day availability.
Build the plan around the next stop on your trip
If you are traveling between the Front Range and a mountain destination, choose a pharmacy you can reach after the clinician's review. A store near tonight's accommodation may be more practical than the one beside the airport. Confirm dispensing hours and stock with that branch; the store's general opening hours may be different from the pharmacy's.
For a worsening or unfamiliar lesion, the right next stop may be a clinic rather than a pharmacy. Travel inconvenience does not change the need for an exam. Use the urgent-care instructions below for eye involvement or severe symptoms instead of waiting for an online reply.
Can a ski trip or time outdoors affect the plan?
Sun exposure can trigger cold sores in some people. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends broad-spectrum lip protection with SPF 30 or higher as part of prevention. That advice may be useful when you spend time outdoors, but a sore after a Colorado outing is not automatically herpes. Chapping, irritation and other conditions can affect the lips too.
Tell the clinician when tingling began, when any blister appeared and whether this resembles your previously diagnosed outbreaks. Those details are more useful than guessing that altitude caused it. There is no separate Colorado antiviral dose; medical history, kidney function, allergies and the clinical assessment guide treatment.
If you already have a prescribed outbreak plan, bring the labeled medicine and follow that plan. If you need a new prescription, allow for clinician review and pharmacy processing. An online request is not an instant fill or a guarantee that a short trip can accommodate every step.
Treatment decisions
Can I get valacyclovir or Valtrex online?
Eligible patients can request assessment for oral valacyclovir, the generic medication in Valtrex, or an acyclovir alternative. A clinician chooses treatment after review. Oral acyclovir for cold sores is off-label; famciclovir and topical acyclovir are not offered through this visit.
Early symptoms matter, but the timing needs context
Tell the clinician when tingling started and whether blisters have appeared. The US Valtrex label says effectiveness when started after visible cold-sore signs develop has not been established. That is not a promise of benefit at any stage or proof that every later presentation is untreatable. Read the treatment-timing guide.
Antivirals do not cure herpes. Daily cold-sore suppression is off-label and a separate clinical decision. Follow your own prescription; do not borrow tablets, extend a course or use a genital-herpes regimen for a cold sore on your own.
Could it be something other than a cold sore?
Cold sores, also called herpes labialis, are caused by herpes simplex virus. A recurrence may start with familiar tingling or burning before blisters appear on or around the lips. Appearance alone cannot confirm an unfamiliar diagnosis.
- Canker sore
- An ulcer inside the mouth rather than a typical lip-border recurrence. A large, persistent or recurring ulcer needs medical or dental assessment, particularly after two weeks.
- Impetigo
- Leaking sores with honey-colored crust can reflect a bacterial infection. An examination is needed; a herpes antiviral does not treat impetigo.
- Angular cheilitis
- Cracks at the mouth corners may have causes other than herpes. Persistent or recurring cracks need assessment.
- Irritation or allergy
- Lip products or toothpaste can irritate the skin. Get assessment if the problem is uncertain, persistent or worsening. Swelling with breathing difficulty is an emergency.
How your online visit works
- Share the history. Give your prior diagnosis, symptom timing, medicines, allergies, physical location and chosen pharmacy.
- Respond to the clinician. Check portal messages. Review may lead to more questions, an examination recommendation or a prescription when appropriate.
- Confirm the pharmacy fill. If prescribed, check availability, total cost and directions with the pharmacy. Bidwell does not sell or ship medication.
When to seek urgent or emergency care
Get urgent same-day care for eye symptoms, sores near the eye, severe swelling, trouble swallowing or drinking, or fever with severe illness. Severe swelling with breathing difficulty is an emergency: call 911. Confusion, new weakness, or a severe headache with a stiff neck, especially with fever, also require emergency care. Call 911 if you cannot get there safely; do not wait for an online message response.
Widespread or rapidly spreading blisters, especially with eczema or a weakened immune system, also need urgent in-person assessment. Do not wait for an online review.
Cold sore care in Colorado: common questions
Can I request Valtrex while vacationing in Colorado?
Yes, an eligible adult physically in Colorado with a prior oral-herpes diagnosis can request review. Valacyclovir is the generic name for Valtrex. The clinician decides whether to prescribe; a particular brand or pharmacy stock is not guaranteed.
Can I submit from Wyoming with a Colorado home address?
No. Bidwell does not currently serve Wyoming. Give your actual location during care; a Colorado address or preferred Colorado pharmacy does not make an out-of-state visit eligible.
Can a pharmacy deliver to my hotel?
Ask the pharmacy whether it offers delivery to that address, its timing and its charge. Bidwell does not sell or deliver medication, and delivery should not be assumed to fit an early-treatment plan.
What if my lip is just cracked after being outdoors?
Dryness or a crack alone does not establish a cold-sore diagnosis. An unfamiliar, persistent or worsening problem needs an examination, especially if it differs from your usual diagnosed outbreaks.
Can I get cold-sore tablets over the counter?
Oral valacyclovir and acyclovir require a prescription. Some nonprescription cold-sore products are available, but they do not establish a diagnosis or replace an exam for an unfamiliar sore. Ask a pharmacist which product is appropriate for your situation.
Is it too late if a blister has already appeared?
Early treatment is preferred. The US Valtrex label says effectiveness when started after visible cold-sore signs develop has not been established. Tell the clinician the timing and current appearance rather than assuming treatment must work or cannot help.
How quickly will my visit be reviewed?
Reviewed 7 days a week, including weekends; timing varies. Additional questions and pharmacy processing can affect the time to treatment. A submitted visit does not guarantee an immediate prescription or same-day pickup.
What if the clinician says I need in-person care?
You receive a full refund when a clinician determines that your case cannot be safely or appropriately treated through Bidwell Health, including when we refer you to in person care. Other refund terms and exceptions apply; read the full terms before starting.

Reduce the chance of passing it on
Avoid kissing and oral sex from the first tingling until the sore has healed. Do not share lip products or kiss a baby while you have a cold sore. Wash your hands after touching it. HSV can spread without visible sores, and medication does not make contact risk-free.
