Cold sore care in Florida
How can I get cold sore treatment online in Florida?
Adults 18 and older who are physically in Florida and have a prior oral-herpes or cold-sore diagnosis can request a $45 online visit with Bidwell Health. A clinician licensed in Florida reviews your history and prescribes only when appropriate; medication is paid separately at your chosen pharmacy. Reviewed 7 days a week, including weekends; timing varies.
No required subscription or video call. Prescription only if appropriate.
First sore or unsure? Choose an in-person examination.
Start with the care you need
Visiting Florida or spending the season here? You can request care while physically in the state, even if your usual clinician and pharmacy are elsewhere. The useful first distinction is whether this is your familiar, previously diagnosed cold sore or a mouth problem that needs to be seen.
A first or uncertain mouth sore needs an examination. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, significant immune suppression, kidney disease needing adjusted dosing, or an antiviral allergy require another care pathway.
A genital-herpes diagnosis alone does not establish that a new mouth sore is oral herpes. Bidwell does not provide a new herpes diagnosis or STI testing through this visit.
Know the cost
$45 for the visit, plus your pharmacy's charge
The $45 covers clinician assessment and visit follow-up messaging. No insurance billing or subscription. Medication, shipping and separate examinations or tests cost extra.
Before paying, compare the entire route: the assessment, any examination or testing you may need elsewhere, and the prescription fill. A lower advertised drug price does not establish the total cost of care during your stay.
Ask your pharmacy for the full prescription price. Medicine, quantity, coverage and pharmacy affect the charge; there is no fixed medication price here.
Bidwell online visit
A familiar recurrent outbreak with a prior oral-herpes diagnosis. The $45 assessment is by messages, with medication charged separately.
Urgent care
An unfamiliar sore or a concern needing examination sooner than your regular office can see you. Ask about the visit charge and any separate testing.
Your primary-care clinician
Useful when they already manage your medical history or when outbreaks keep recurring. If that clinician is outside Florida, ask whether they can provide care while you are here.
Another online service
Check Florida availability, whether a first episode is eligible, video requirements and whether the advertised charge includes a subscription or medicine.
Your local options
In Florida: a familiar outbreak away from your usual care
Staying in Florida for a few days or a season
Your location during care matters more than the address on your driver's license. Give the Florida address where you are staying and tell the clinician if you expect to leave before the review is complete. A visit submitted before a flight is not a promise that treatment will be arranged before departure. If you are already in another state, check that state's availability instead.
Keep your usual medication list available, including anything prescribed by a clinician back home. If an earlier antiviral helped, provide its name and any side effects rather than assuming the same prescription will be appropriate this time. A temporary address does not change the prior-diagnosis requirement.
A first sore on vacation needs a different appointment
For a nonemergency examination, the Florida Association of Community Health Centers directory lists locations by county, their services and contact information. Its listings distinguish primary care, dental services and on-site pharmacies. That helps you avoid driving to a dental-only location when you need medical assessment, or assuming every clinic can dispense medication.
Tell the office that the problem is a new lip or mouth lesion and ask which appointment is appropriate. Confirm the self-pay charge or your insurance network, whether a referral is needed, and whether a clinician can assess the sore at that location. A clinic listing does not establish today's appointment availability.
When the mouth problem remains unexplained
The University of Florida Oral Medicine Clinic in Gainesville evaluates unusual or diagnostically difficult oral lesions. This can be a resource to discuss with your local clinician or dentist for a persistent or unclear problem. Contact the clinic about its appointment process before making a trip; a specialty consultation is not a substitute for urgent care for eye symptoms or severe illness.
Plan the pharmacy around your stay
Use the exact Florida pharmacy branch you can reach, not just a chain name. If you are staying at a hotel or rental, check the route and pharmacy counter hours before selecting it. A store being open does not necessarily mean its pharmacy is open.
For an active outbreak, ask about stock and the earliest realistic fill after a prescription arrives. Mail order may suit some plans, but a delivery estimate must work with your departure date and address. Do not assume a package will arrive before a cruise, flight or move to another rental.
If your travel plans change after submitting, contact Bidwell through the portal and tell the team your current location and preferred pharmacy. Do not submit a second visit simply to change a pickup address. If you need an examination, use a local care option rather than waiting for a message while traveling.
Could the sore be something else?
Cold sores, also called herpes labialis, are caused by herpes simplex virus. A recurrence may start with familiar tingling or burning before blisters appear on or around the lips. These clues cannot diagnose an unfamiliar lesion.
Canker sore
An ulcer inside the mouth, not caused by herpes. Get a medical or dental exam for a large, persistent or recurring ulcer, especially after two weeks.
Impetigo
Leaking sores with honey-colored crust can be bacterial. Get an examination; a cold-sore antiviral is not the treatment for impetigo.
Angular cheilitis
Cracks at the mouth corners can reflect irritation or infection other than herpes. Persistent or recurring cracks need an examination.
Allergic or irritant reaction
Lip products or toothpaste can cause itchy, red or scaly skin. Seek assessment if uncertain, persistent or worsening; swelling with breathing difficulty means call 911.
For severe symptoms, follow the urgent-care instructions below.
From visit request to treatment decision
- Share your history: diagnosis, symptom timing, medicines, allergies, location and pharmacy.
- Check your portal: the clinician may ask questions, recommend an exam or prescribe when appropriate.
- Arrange any prescribed fill: confirm availability and follow your directions. Bidwell does not sell or ship medicine.
Oral valacyclovir or acyclovir may be considered. Oral acyclovir for cold sores is off-label; famciclovir and topical acyclovir are not offered through this visit. Early treatment can help, but review and dispensing are not immediate. Daily cold-sore suppression is off-label and a separate clinical decision.
When to seek urgent or emergency care
Get urgent same-day care for eye symptoms, sores near the eye, severe swelling, trouble swallowing or drinking, or fever with severe illness. Severe swelling with breathing difficulty is an emergency: call 911. Confusion, new weakness, or a severe headache with a stiff neck, especially with fever, also require emergency care. Call 911 if you cannot get there safely; do not wait for an online message response.
A sore that is not healing, has changed from your usual pattern or keeps returning needs reassessment. Do not keep treating an uncertain diagnosis with leftover medication.
Florida visit questions
Can I use this while visiting Florida?
Yes, if you are physically in Florida, are at least 18 and otherwise meet the cold-sore eligibility rules. Tell us if you will leave the state before the review is finished. Being a Florida resident while traveling elsewhere is not enough.
Will I need a video call or send a picture?
No video call or photo is required for this service because it is limited to previously diagnosed cold sores. The clinician can ask follow-up questions in your portal. A first or uncertain lesion needs an examination.
Can I collect medicine near my hotel?
You can choose a local pharmacy if treatment is prescribed. Verify the exact branch, pharmacy hours, stock and price. Review and dispensing are separate steps, so do not rely on a fill before a particular flight or departure.
What happens if I have already left Florida?
Tell the clinician where you are physically located now. Check the current states served before starting or continuing care. An old Florida address does not authorize a visit from an unsupported state.
What if online treatment is not appropriate?
You receive a full refund when a clinician determines that your case cannot be safely or appropriately treated through Bidwell Health, including when we refer you to in person care. Other refund terms and exceptions apply; read the full terms before starting.

Protect others during an outbreak
Avoid kissing and oral sex from the first tingling until the sore has healed. Do not share lip products or kiss a baby while you have a cold sore. Wash your hands after touching it. HSV can spread without visible sores, and medicine does not make contact risk-free.
