Herpes Treatment Cost: Visit, Medication and Refills
$45 assessment. Medication separate. Prior diagnosis required.
At Bidwell Health, a herpes visit costs $45 for clinician assessment. Medication is purchased separately from your pharmacy. Your total depends on the prescribed drug, strength, quantity, pharmacy and any delivery or outside testing charges. There is no required subscription.
What does herpes treatment cost without insurance?
Your total is the visit fee plus the pharmacy's quote for the exact prescription, plus any delivery charges, applicable tax and outside services. One outbreak and ongoing suppression are different purchases. A price for a large bottle should not be presented as the price of a short course, and a refill is not automatically another consultation.
If you already have a valid prescription with available refills, ask your pharmacy what it would cost to fill it. You do not need to buy another Bidwell visit just to compare pharmacies. If a new prescription or a change in treatment is needed, a clinician must decide what is appropriate.
Dated valacyclovir price examples
On October 21, 2026, the GoodRx valacyclovir dosage table displayed the following generic medication prices. These are published comparison examples, not a guaranteed local quote, a recommended regimen or a claim that these are the lowest prices available.
| Exact displayed fill | Medication example | With one $45 visit |
|---|---|---|
| 30 tablets, 1 g each | $26.30 | $71.30 |
| 90 tablets, 500 mg each | $37.60 | $82.60 |
The arithmetic is $45 + $26.30 = $71.30, or $45 + $37.60 = $82.60. Both totals exclude shipping, tax and outside testing. Availability depends on location, pharmacy and coupon terms. GoodRx's summary table is not a quote for your ZIP code. Its other offers can have different quantities or membership conditions.
The tablet count is the quantity used by the price source. It does not establish how many days you should take medication or what your clinician will prescribe. Do not divide a bulk price into individual tablets and assume a smaller fill costs that fraction. Compare the complete price for your actual prescription.
Outbreak treatment and daily suppression have different budgets
| Care situation | What to budget | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| A familiar recurrent outbreak | Assessment if needed, plus the prescribed short-course fill | Drug, strength, quantity and access timing |
| Daily suppressive treatment | Medication fills over time and visits when renewal or reassessment is needed | Supply, authorized refills and follow-up plan |
| A first or uncertain episode | In-person evaluation and any recommended tests, with medication separate | The clinic's actual cash prices; this is outside Bidwell's herpes service |
| A refill already authorized | The pharmacy fill and any delivery costs | Whether the prescription still has valid refills |
Episodic treatment addresses a recurrent outbreak; suppression is taken regularly under a clinician's plan. Antivirals help manage herpes but do not remove the virus from the body. The choice should reflect your history and goals, not simply which bottle looks cheapest. See outbreak treatment and daily suppression.
When do you pay for another visit?
A valid, authorized pharmacy refill does not require another Bidwell visit. When authorized refills are exhausted and a new prescription is needed, renewal requires a new $45 visit. A dispensed supply is not a promise of unlimited refills or an instruction to stop when the bottle runs out. Follow your treatment plan and ask about renewal before your medication runs low.
The visit includes 21 days of messaging about that visit after receipt of your care summary. That support window is separate from the medication supply and prescription expiration. It does not establish how long suppressive therapy should continue. New symptoms, changed health conditions or treatment concerns may require reassessment sooner.
How to compare pharmacy prices fairly
- Match the prescription. Use the same generic or brand, strength, quantity and form for every quote.
- Compare the full fill. Include delivery and any membership you would have to purchase. Do not compare a coupon price with an unrelated retail average.
- Ask about insurance and coupons separately. Bidwell does not bill insurance for the visit. Your pharmacy may bill your insurance for medication. Discount cards and insurance are different payment options and should not be assumed to combine.
- Check stock and timing. Prescription transmission does not mean a pharmacy has filled it. For an active outbreak, discuss timely access with your clinician rather than waiting for a shipment solely to save money.
Medication is bought from the pharmacy, not from Bidwell. You can request your chosen pharmacy when it can fill the prescription. A low online price is useful only if it applies to your actual fill and its arrival time works for your care.
When a $45 online visit is not the right purchase
Bidwell reviews established oral or genital herpes in adults 18 and older who are physically in a supported state. It does not diagnose a first possible herpes infection online. New or unusual sores, pregnancy, immune suppression, significant kidney problems or severe symptoms need an individualized assessment and may require in-person care. Eye pain, eye redness, light sensitivity or vision changes need prompt eye care.
If the clinician determines online care is inappropriate, Bidwell explains the next step and refunds the visit fee under its terms. Outside clinics, laboratories and pharmacies set their own fees. This is not a promise that a visit, test or medication elsewhere will be free.
Common cost questions
Is medication included in the $45?
No. The fee covers clinician assessment and the treatment decision. The pharmacy charges separately for medication, even when the prescription is sent electronically.
Does a 90-tablet price mean a 90-day prescription?
No. Duration depends on the prescribed directions. A public price table cannot determine your dose, supply or eligibility. Ask the clinician and pharmacist to clarify your actual prescription.
Can I use pharmacy insurance even though the visit is cash-pay?
Yes, if your pharmacy and plan cover the medication. The pharmacy may submit an insurance claim. Compare that quote with available cash or coupon prices; do not assume the options can be combined.
