For adults physically in Utah, Bidwell offers a $45 online yeast infection assessment with no subscription or required video appointment. Patients in Orem, Provo, Salt Lake City and elsewhere in the state receive review by a Utah-licensed clinician. When medication is appropriate, you choose the pharmacy and pay its medication charge separately.

Orem and Salt Lake City: check student eligibility and pharmacy options

Campus medical services have different rules for who can use them. An independent Bidwell visit is available to clinically eligible adults 18 and older physically in Utah, regardless of school enrollment. It is a separate $45 assessment, not part of a university health fee.

Utah Valley University students in Orem

UVU Student Health Services offers vaginal-infection and gynecological care for students currently taking at least three credits. It states that insurance is not required and that there is no on-campus pharmacy. If you use UVU, ask about the visit charge and any tests, then arrange the pharmacy step separately. The page notes that some appointments can be by video.

University of Utah students in Salt Lake City

The University of Utah Student Health Center lists students, spouses and dependents among those eligible for its care, along with appointment and virtual-visit information. Those campus rules differ from Bidwell's adult-only service. Ask which appointment is suitable for current vaginal symptoms and which costs your coverage includes.

Bidwell Health is independent of UVU and the University of Utah. Our clinical visits and messages are in English, and student status does not change the treatment decision.

Who qualifies for online yeast infection treatment

Bidwell Health's Utah yeast infection visit is designed for adults ages 18 and older who are physically located in Utah at the time of the visit, who are not pregnant, not immunosuppressed, and whose symptoms fit an uncomplicated episode of vulvovaginal candidiasis: vulvar itching, thick white discharge, and external burning, typically with no fever and no pelvic or abdominal pain. If that fits your situation, the intake takes a few minutes and a clinician licensed in Utah reviews it 7 days a week, including weekends.

Yeast infection symptoms we treat

Classic uncomplicated vulvovaginal candidiasis presents with some combination of vulvar itching, thick white curd-like discharge, vulvar burning, external redness and swelling, and pain with intercourse. These symptoms can also occur with other conditions; a clinician evaluates the pattern and decides whether treatment or testing is appropriate. Typical symptoms include:

No pelvic exam is performed during your online visit. A licensed clinician reviews your symptoms and health information and determines whether online treatment is appropriate. If testing or an in-person examination is needed, we explain the next step. Symptoms are not specific to yeast; the CDC STI Treatment Guidelines discuss diagnostic testing and treatment.

Symptoms that mean you should NOT use online telehealth

Not every vaginal-irritation pattern is yeast, and not every yeast infection is uncomplicated. Contact dermatitis from new products, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomoniasis all mimic yeast symptoms. Pregnancy and immunosuppression change the care needed. Don't use this online yeast infection visit if any of the following applies:

If any of those apply, your primary provider, an OB/GYN, or urgent care in Utah is the right path.

Is it actually a yeast infection? Differential diagnosis

For a closer look at overlapping symptoms, read our yeast versus BV guide.

Vulvovaginal itching has several possible causes beyond yeast, and each responds to different treatment. Yeast, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, contact dermatitis from products, and postmenopausal atrophic vaginitis can all present with overlapping symptoms. The distinguishing features are discharge character, odor, and recent product or partner exposure. Here's how they typically differ:

How we distinguish yeast infection from common mimics
ConditionTelltale featurePrimary treatment
Yeast infection (VVC)Vulvar itching, thick white cottage-cheese discharge, no strong odorOral fluconazole or topical azole
Bacterial vaginosisThin grayish discharge, fishy odor (especially after sex), minimal itchingMetronidazole or clindamycin
TrichomoniasisYellow-green frothy discharge, often sexually transmittedMetronidazole or tinidazole, partner treatment required
UTIBurning during urination, urgency, frequency — no dischargeShort antibiotic course
Contact/allergic vulvovaginitisItching after new soap, detergent, lubricant, or product — no dischargeRemove trigger, consider topical steroid briefly
Lichen sclerosus or atrophic vaginitisChronic itching, thinning or white patches on vulva, postmenopausalTopical steroid or local estrogen — in-person evaluation

Our intake asks about symptoms, pregnancy, fever, pelvic pain, severe symptoms and STI concerns. Your clinician reviews the answers and determines whether online care is appropriate. If your clinician determines online care is not appropriate, we explain the next step and refund the visit fee. For BV specifically, we have a dedicated BV visit in Utah.

Medication options for uncomplicated candidiasis

CDC and ACOG support two first-line treatment patterns for uncomplicated yeast infection — oral fluconazole 150 mg as a single dose, or topical clotrimazole or miconazole for 1, 3, or 7 days. Your provider picks based on your preference for oral vs topical, pregnancy status, and any drug interactions (warfarin, certain statins):

First-line treatments for uncomplicated vulvovaginal candidiasis
MedicationTypical doseDurationCommon side effectsCash price
Fluconazole (Diflucan)150 mg oral, single dose1 doseNausea, headache, abdominal discomfortPaid separately at pharmacy
Clotrimazole (topical)1%, 2%, or 10% cream / suppository1, 3, or 7 daysMild burning, local irritationVaries by product and pharmacy
Miconazole (topical)2% or 4% cream / suppository1, 3, or 7 daysMild burning$8–18 OTC
Terconazole (topical, Rx)0.4% or 0.8% cream / suppository3 or 7 daysLocal irritation$30–60

Over-the-counter topicals are effective for uncomplicated candidiasis; many patients prefer the convenience of a single oral dose of fluconazole.

A practical choice for Utah Valley students and other adults

A student may already have useful campus services, while a nonstudent may prefer an established clinician or a self-pay online assessment. Bidwell provides message-based review and 21 days of messaging about the visit. First suspected episodes can be assessed, and recurrent infections are reviewed individually. If examination or testing is needed, the clinician explains the in-person next step.

Our clinical perspective

For uncomplicated vulvovaginal candidiasis in non-pregnant women, our clinicians typically offer oral fluconazole 150 mg single-dose as first-line when the patient prefers oral therapy and has no contraindications (liver disease, significant drug interactions like warfarin or certain statins). The rationale: one dose, high resolution rate, convenient adherence. For patients who prefer topical therapy, clotrimazole or miconazole are equally effective and available over-the-counter. First-time symptoms can be evaluated through a Bidwell online visit. A licensed clinician reviews your answers and determines whether online treatment is appropriate.

Three or more symptomatic yeast infections in less than a year are considered recurrent. Repeated infections warrant clinical evaluation and testing and may require a longer treatment plan. Recurrent infections are considered individually by your clinician. Depending on your history and symptoms, testing, an in-person evaluation or a longer treatment plan may be recommended.

After your prescription is sent

Once your Utah prescription is routed to your chosen pharmacy, pharmacy pickup timing varies. Fluconazole begins working within 24 hours — you should notice itching and burning starting to decrease within a day or two, with full symptom resolution typically in 3 to 7 days. Topical regimens are completed as directed (1, 3, or 7 days). If symptoms have not improved meaningfully within 7 days, contact your clinician for follow-up. New fever, pelvic or lower abdominal pain, severe vaginal symptoms or STI concerns need prompt in-person evaluation; do not wait for a portal reply.

What happens if you're not a candidate

If your intake shows that online care is not appropriate because of pregnancy, an unclear diagnosis or findings suggesting a different condition, we'll tell you, refund your visit fee, and direct you to the appropriate in-person option in Utah (OB/GYN, primary care, or urgent care as needed).

Serving Utah patients in

Salt Lake City West Valley City Provo West Jordan Orem Sandy

We treat eligible adults physically located anywhere in Utah, including urban, suburban and rural communities. Your pharmacy is any licensed pharmacy in the state, so you fill the prescription wherever is closest.

Prescription pickup in Provo, Orem or West Valley City

The pharmacy does not have to be on campus or near the address used for school. Choose a branch you can reach or compatible mail order. Ask about the total medication price and, for delivery, shipping and processing time. A pharmacy's cash or discount price is separate from the clinician's visit fee.

When the pattern is not typical of yeast

Odor, discharge, pain and irritation can overlap across different conditions. If you are unsure which visit to start, read our yeast versus BV guide and describe your actual symptoms. Fever, pelvic pain, severe symptoms or STI concerns call for in-person care rather than choosing a medication yourself.

How it works in Utah

Three out of four women will have a yeast infection at some point. Most are simple to treat with a single-dose oral prescription. Complete a short intake online, a licensed clinician reviews it, and your Rx is sent to your pharmacy.

Is online telehealth appropriate?
Yeast infections are among the most straightforward conditions for telehealth. The intake asks about symptoms and screens for pregnancy, fever, pelvic pain, severe symptoms and STI concerns. A clinician reviews the answers and explains if testing or in-person evaluation is needed.
