Hair loss treatment cost: Hims, Ro, Keeps and a $45 visit

The short answer

Six months of finasteride 1 mg can cost $70.46 with a $45 Bidwell visit and medication from Cost Plus Drugs, including standard shipping. The same pharmacy route totals $87.08 for Growth, our finasteride plus oral minoxidil plan, or $96.82 for Max Strength, our dutasteride plus oral minoxidil plan, if prescribed. These are calculated pharmacy examples, before tax, not medication bundles sold by Bidwell.

For finasteride, Hims advertises a starting rate equivalent to $132 over six months. Ro publishes $108 on its six-month plan. Keeps lists $135 for 180 tablets, with a $94.50 first-order promotion at the time checked, before any checkout fees. The detailed comparison below shows the lower long-term tiers, introductory offers and differences in support.

Each example includes one $45 visit, two 90-day fills and two $5.25 standard shipments. Both drugs in a combination ship together. Medication is paid separately to the pharmacy. Dutasteride and oral minoxidil, without a subscription

Your treatment options should not end with finasteride or a scalp foam. Bidwell offers clinician review for oral dutasteride 0.5 mg, oral minoxidil 2.5 mg, finasteride 1 mg and the supported two-drug plans. If prescribed, these are separate generic medications sent to your chosen pharmacy. The visit is $45, with no required membership, compounded blend or supplement purchase.

“Not listed” describes the public menu we checked, not proof that a provider will never prescribe it. Availability can change. Hims, Ro and Keeps already offer oral minoxidil; Keeps also advertises dutasteride combinations. Bidwell's distinction is the combination of these supported generic options, separate prescriptions, pharmacy choice and a per-visit fee.

A new clinician review is still required. Bring your current medication names, doses and instructions, and arrange the next supply before cancelling a service you depend on. Requesting the same treatment does not guarantee approval, and you should not switch or combine medicines based only on price.

1. What the generic medication costs

Start with the medicine itself. A prescription for a generic drug can be filled at a pharmacy that accepts it, without buying an ongoing telehealth subscription. The following quotes come from the public Cost Plus Drugs calculator with the strength and 90-count quantity selected, rather than extrapolating from a 30-tablet price.

These prices already include the pharmacy's $5 labor fee for each medication. We do not add that fee again. Standard delivery costs $5.25 for one or two prescriptions in the same order. 2. Finasteride: Hims vs Ro vs Keeps vs Bidwell

Finasteride is the clearest direct comparison because these rows concern the same active ingredient, 1 mg strength and oral tablet form. The service around the prescription still differs. Bidwell separates the clinician visit from the pharmacy bill; the other options package treatment through their platform.

Periods are six and twelve treatment months. Bidwell supplies 180 and 360 daily doses in this model; Keeps explicitly lists those quantities. Competitor figures follow their published plan lengths. Hims figures are starting-rate projections, not confirmed checkout totals. Prices are before tax.

The lower prepaid plans belong in the comparison. Ro's twelve-month finasteride rate gives a $192 total, rather than the $240 that results from repeating its quarterly rate. Bidwell's $140.92 example is $51.08 less. Over six months, the difference from Ro's $108 plan is $37.54. Those figures compare the care-and-pharmacy model with Ro's listed plan, not the price of pills alone.

Keeps' first-order offer narrows the gap further: $94.50 for 180 tablets or $168 for 360 tablets, before any checkout fees. Its regular displayed prices are $135 and $240. The promotion is included here so an introductory offer is neither hidden nor presented as a permanent renewal rate.

Happy Head also advertises a six-month finasteride 1 mg option for $108, including its consultation and shipping. Its product page describes capsules, so it is listed separately from the generic-tablet comparison rather than assumed to be the same dosage form. Happy Head finasteride plans.

Keeps' shipping FAQ says $5 per shipment, while its separate express checkout advertises free shipping. We therefore label its figures as medication subtotals and leave unconfirmed fees out, rather than choosing whichever version makes another provider look more expensive. 3. Oral minoxidil: compare tablets with tablets

A price for minoxidil foam is not a price for oral minoxidil. Topical products go on the scalp; oral minoxidil is a prescription tablet used off-label for hair loss. The route and the clinical considerations differ, so a $15 topical product should not be substituted into an oral-treatment budget.

Ro's pricing page lists oral-minoxidil rates by plan length, but does not tie those prices to a specific prescribed dose. Bidwell's example prices 2.5 mg tablets. The dollar difference is meaningful only if the treatment you are prescribed matches the option you priced. A clinician may recommend a different dose or decide oral minoxidil is not appropriate.

Hims also lists a minoxidil chew with a supplement blend. Happy Head's standalone minoxidil page describes 1.25 mg dosing. Neither belongs in a table labeled as the same 2.5 mg tablet. Ask what is actually in the prescription, how many doses the shipment contains and whether the price applies to that exact product.

4. Finasteride plus minoxidil: separate tablets or a compounded combination?

Bidwell's Growth plan uses two separate prescriptions: finasteride 1 mg and oral minoxidil 2.5 mg daily, when clinically appropriate. At the pharmacy prices above, six months totals $87.08, including the visit and shipping. There is no second visit fee simply because the approved hair-loss plan contains two medications.

These rows compare budgets for different treatments, not equivalent products or expected results. Hims' dose and plan depend on the prescribed product. Happy Head's listed minoxidil dose is 1.25 mg, compared with 2.5 mg in the Growth example. Its explicit refill line says $63.20/month although a separate card rounds to $63; the calculation uses the explicit refill figure.

A combined chew or capsule can be convenient. Two separate prescriptions can make it easier for a clinician to adjust one medication while leaving the other unchanged. Neither format is automatically better for every patient. The relevant question is whether the formulation provides a clinical or practical benefit worth its cost for you.

The FDA distinguishes approved generics from compounded medicines. A compounded product does not become FDA-approved because its ingredients also appear in approved drugs. That distinction does not prove that a particular compounded formula is ineffective; it means this comparison cannot treat it as an interchangeable generic. FDA explanation.

What about topical finasteride combinations?

Hims advertises a finasteride-minoxidil spray starting at $35/month. Ro lists Mane Spray at $43/month on its six-month plan, equivalent to $258 for that plan. These are topical compounded products, not the oral tablets priced above. A patient who needs or prefers a topical prescription should compare topical ingredients, concentrations and delivered volume with a clinician. A lower oral-treatment price alone is not a reason to change routes.

5. What each Bidwell hair-loss plan costs with this pharmacy

All five plans use the same $45 visit fee. The medication decision follows the clinical review; choosing a plan does not guarantee that prescription. This table makes the pharmacy part visible instead of presenting the visit fee as the whole treatment price.

The medication remains separate from the visit. You pay Bidwell for the visit, then pay the pharmacy for each fill. These examples use Cost Plus Drugs because its prices are public and reproducible. You can choose another pharmacy, and a different pharmacy quote changes the totals.

The Max Strength name identifies the dutasteride-plus-minoxidil plan. It is not a promise of greater regrowth for an individual patient. Dutasteride, including when used by itself, is prescribed off-label for hair loss. Treatment choice depends on your history, current medications, tolerance and clinical assessment.

For another dutasteride budget, Happy Head lists $221 for its six-month 0.5 mg plan. Its page describes a freshly compounded formula, so compare the product as well as the price with the $80.20 generic-capsule example above. The calculation, with nothing hidden

The twelve-treatment-month column repeats that cycle once, with a second $45 visit and two further 90-day fills, if continuing treatment is approved. It covers 360 days of daily dosing. A calendar year has 365 days, so this is not a promise that two visits cover every day of a calendar year. See the exact period used.

6. Pharmacy refills and new visits are different

If approved, each hair-loss medication may be prescribed as a 90-day supply with one refill, for 6 months of treatment, when clinically appropriate. Use that refill through your pharmacy. When you need the next prescription, start a new $45 visit in your portal.

1. Start the visit. Share your health information and initial scalp photos. A licensed clinician reviews your visit and decides whether treatment is appropriate.
2. Fill the prescription. If approved, your prescription goes to the pharmacy you chose. Medication is paid separately.
3. Use the authorized refill. Request it from the pharmacy when due. You do not pay Bidwell another $45 just to fill a refill already authorized on that prescription.
4. Request the next prescription. When those authorized fills are used, continue through a new $45 portal visit. Review your previous answers, update what changed and confirm your pharmacy. A routine return visit does not require another photo upload.

Follow-up messaging for the visit is available for 21 days after receipt of the care summary. The prescription, instructions and visit history stay readable afterward. Ending that messaging period does not remove an authorized refill from the pharmacy. New care after the messaging period requires a new visit.

The supply and refill allowance are part of the price comparison. One approved $45 visit can cover a 90-day supply plus one refill for each medication, for 6 months of treatment. The authorized pharmacy refill does not require another visit fee. After those fills are used, the next prescription requires a new $45 visit. There is no required Bidwell subscription or automatic visit renewal. You decide when to request another visit. Your pharmacy may offer its own optional refill reminders or automatic shipping; those arrangements are separate from Bidwell.

7. When a subscription may be worth paying for

Price matters, but so does what you need from the service. Some subscriptions include ongoing provider access and automatic shipments. Hims advertises unlimited provider access, and Ro advertises unlimited messaging. Bidwell's included follow-up is limited to the visit's 21-day period. Someone who expects frequent treatment adjustments should weigh that difference, rather than comparing medication totals alone. Hims · Ro.

A subscription can also make sense if it offers a formulation your clinician recommends, serves your state when another practice does not, or makes consistent treatment easier for you. An upfront annual purchase may lower its effective monthly price, though it also changes how much you pay at once. Read the renewal and cancellation terms before choosing it.

The separate-visit model is especially worth comparing when you want ordinary generic tablets, a pharmacy you control and no automatic visit charge. It also lets you compare pharmacy prices independently of your provider. The price gap is the cost difference between two ways of obtaining care and medication; it does not tell us a competitor's profit margin or quality of care.

When Bidwell is not the cheapest route

If you already have a valid prescription with refills, you may only need to fill it. Buying another visit solely to use a pharmacy's cash price can add an unnecessary expense. A clinician you already see may also provide appropriate hair-loss care at a lower out-of-pocket visit cost. Compare the total you would actually pay, including any covered care you already receive.

Bidwell's men's hair-loss service is for adults 18 and older who are physically in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Virginia or Washington at the time of the visit. 8. How to compare your current subscription before switching

Open your most recent prescription and renewal notice. Write down the drug, strength, form, daily directions, quantity, next charge and how long that shipment lasts. For a blend, record every ingredient. Then request a pharmacy quote for the exact generic prescription your clinician considers appropriate.

For a six-month comparison, add the visit fee to two 90-day medication fills and any shipping charges. For two medicines, ask whether they can ship in the same order. Compare that figure with the subscription's actual next charge and supply length, not only the introductory monthly headline. Include any paid follow-up you expect to need.

Arrange the next prescription and supply before cancelling a service you still depend on. Do not change doses, replace a topical formula with tablets or stop medication based on a price table. 9. The right treatment comes before the lowest price

This comparison concerns medication-based care for male-pattern hair loss. Sudden or patchy loss, a painful or inflamed scalp, or hair loss with other symptoms may need a different evaluation. A clinician should establish the likely cause before prescribing. How hair loss is evaluated.

Finasteride can cause adverse effects, including sexual side effects. Oral minoxidil affects blood pressure and carries a boxed warning for potentially serious cardiac effects; its use for hair loss is off-label. Dutasteride is also off-label for hair loss.
