Personal care, on your terms

Discreet care, in your own space.

Discuss an established diagnosis in writing with a licensed clinician. No genital photos. No scheduled video call. No waiting-room conversation for this online visit.

Your visit

Use a private email account and read your clinician's questions and instructions in the patient portal. Keep visit links to yourself.

Your pharmacy

Choose where an appropriate prescription is sent. Ask that pharmacy about shared accounts, insurance claims, pickup alerts and delivery packaging.

Your information

Bidwell does not sell your personal or health information or share it with advertisers. Care creates a medical record, with access and disclosures described in the privacy policy.

Use your accurate identity for medical care. Bidwell does not bill insurance for the visit; the pharmacy handles medication billing and its own notifications and packaging.

Is this the right visit for you?

You can request a review if

  • You are 18 or older and physically in this state during care.
  • A healthcare provider has already diagnosed genital herpes.
  • You want treatment for a familiar recurrence, daily suppression or both.
  • You can provide your history and respond to clinician questions.

Choose care outside this service for

  • A first outbreak, uncertain or changed symptoms, or STI testing.
  • Pregnancy, possible pregnancy, trying to conceive or breastfeeding.
  • Kidney disease, reduced kidney function, dialysis or a kidney transplant.
  • Chemotherapy, transplant medicines, advanced or untreated HIV, a serious immune-system problem, or an antiviral allergy.

These are Bidwell's service limits. Your clinician makes the final treatment decision. An existing diagnosis does not mean every new genital symptom is herpes.

Care decisions in Colorado

Screening versus a clinician examination

The first decision in Colorado is whether you need treatment for a known recurrence or an examination for a new symptom. A community testing event, a full sexual health clinic and a message-based visit do different jobs. Pick the service that can answer your actual question.

A screening appointment may not include an exam

Denver Health distinguishes its community testing services from clinical care. Its community program does not provide physical examinations or treatment and directs people with symptoms to the Denver Sexual Health Clinic. If you have a first sore, ask specifically for a clinician assessment. For other Colorado locations, the same directory links to a statewide testing and treatment locator. Confirm whether the selected site can assess a genital lesion, not simply collect screening samples.

Plan around where you can receive medication

For a previously diagnosed recurrence, an online review may let you avoid a separate clinic trip when care is appropriate. Before you start, identify a pharmacy close enough to reach and check whether it will be open after the review. If you are staying outside the Front Range or changing accommodation, use your current location and realistic pickup options. Do not assume that a prescription sent to a pharmacy means the medicine has been filled.

An outbreak during a Colorado trip

Tell the clinician when symptoms started, how the outbreak compares with your usual pattern and whether you already have medication with you. Do not take an extra course or restart a previous dose while waiting for advice. If you are seeking both outbreak treatment and a longer-term daily plan, select both goals and follow the instructions for the prescribed medicines. The clinician decides whether either option fits your history.

Choose a quiet place to complete the visit

A message-based visit does not require finding a private room for a video call. You still need a device and email account you can use safely, accurate medical information and a way to read follow-up messages. If you share a hotel computer or work device, use a personal device instead when possible. Contact the pharmacy separately about pickup, account access and notifications; its privacy practices are independent of Bidwell.

Confirm current services, appointments and testing with the clinic. A resource listing is not a promise that herpes testing is available.

How your private visit works in Colorado

  1. Tell us what you need. Choose a current outbreak, a daily prevention plan or both. Complete the clinical intake with your prior diagnosis, symptoms, medical history, allergies and medicines.
  2. A licensed clinician reviews your visit. Your clinician can message for more information and decides whether this service is appropriate. Be physically in Colorado during care and tell us if your location changes.
  3. Use your care plan and chosen pharmacy. If prescribed, medication goes to the pharmacy you select. Read the instructions, check the pharmacy price and wait for its ready-to-collect notice.

Reviewed 7 days a week, including weekends; timing varies. No required subscription.

Outbreak treatment, daily suppression, or both

01

A recurrence now

An episodic antiviral course treats an outbreak after a prior diagnosis. Describe when tingling or sores started. Treatment works best when started early, but review and pharmacy timing vary.

02

Fewer future outbreaks

Daily suppressive therapy can reduce recurrences. Tell the clinician how often they occur, how they affect you and which medicines you have used. You can request this assessment without an active sore.

03

Both treatment goals

You can select both in the intake. Follow the clinician's separate instructions for the current episode and daily plan. Do not combine or change doses yourself.

Bidwell may prescribe oral valacyclovir or acyclovir when appropriate. Valacyclovir is the generic medicine for Valtrex. We do not offer famciclovir through this visit. The medicine, dose and duration depend on your assessment.

Genital herpes can be caused by HSV-1 or HSV-2. Genital HSV-1 generally recurs less often; daily treatment is usually reserved for frequent recurrences after discussion. Antivirals manage herpes but do not cure it.

What does treatment cost?

$45 One online clinical visit
Medication paid separately at your pharmacy

The visit includes clinician assessment, an appropriate prescription when indicated and 21 days of clinical follow-up messaging under the visit terms. There is no required subscription, and Bidwell does not bill insurance.

The pharmacy price depends on the prescribed medicine, strength, quantity and the pharmacy's cash price or your coverage. Ask for the price of the actual prescription before it is filled.

If the clinician determines that your condition cannot be treated safely online, your visit fee is refunded. A refund is based on suitability for online care, not a promise of a prescription.

Authorized pharmacy refills do not require another visit. When a new prescription or further clinical care is needed, a new $45 visit is required. Read the herpes treatment cost guide.

Online visit or an in-person clinic?

Choose the setting that can answer your question
Care option Useful for What to check
Bidwell online visit A prior diagnosis with an eligible recurrence or daily-treatment request. $45 visit, medicine extra. No first-outbreak diagnosis or STI testing.
Primary care or sexual-health clinic A first sore, uncertain diagnosis, testing, examination or ongoing care. Ask about symptomatic appointments, HSV testing, fees and insurance.
Urgent care Symptoms needing a prompt examination when your usual clinician is unavailable. Confirm services and hours. Emergency symptoms need emergency care.
Another online service A different remote-care format or a service outside Bidwell's scope. Compare clinical eligibility, testing arrangements, video requirements, subscriptions and total cost.

When to get examined instead

A new genital sore can have more than one cause. Herpes, syphilis, irritation, an injury and other skin conditions can overlap in appearance. A sore that hurts, does not hurt or resembles an online image cannot establish the diagnosis. New, persistent or different symptoms need an examination and appropriate testing.

A clinician may swab an active sore for HSV testing. Blood tests have limitations and can produce false-positive results; routine STI screening does not necessarily include herpes. Ask which test is appropriate for your symptoms. Bidwell does not perform STI testing or diagnose first outbreaks.

Do not wait for an online response

Emergency care now: confusion, new weakness, or severe headache with a stiff neck, especially with fever. Call 911 if you cannot get there safely.

Urgent same-day assessment: eye pain, eye redness with light sensitivity or vision changes, sores near the eye, trouble passing urine, inability to urinate, severe pain, widespread sores or fever with severe illness.

For pregnancy, possible pregnancy, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, use your obstetric or in-person clinician. Tell them promptly about new genital symptoms. Kidney disease, significant immune suppression and antiviral allergy also require care outside this service.

What about my partner?

Herpes can spread even when no sore is visible. Avoid sexual contact during sores or warning symptoms, discuss the diagnosis with partners, and use condoms to reduce risk. Condoms and antiviral treatment do not eliminate transmission.

Daily valacyclovir has evidence for reducing HSV-2 transmission in heterosexual couples where one partner has symptomatic genital HSV-2 and the other does not. Do not assume the same evidence applies to acyclovir or genital HSV-1. Your clinician can discuss what is known for your situation.

A partner with symptoms needs their own assessment. Do not share your prescription or use treatment as a substitute for testing after a new exposure. A herpes diagnosis does not establish when an infection was acquired.

Questions about private genital herpes care

Can I get genital herpes treatment online in Colorado?

Yes. Adults 18 and older who are physically in Colorado and have a prior genital herpes diagnosis can request a private $45 online visit. A licensed clinician reviews your history, can message for more information and prescribes only when appropriate; medication is paid separately at your chosen pharmacy.

Do I have to send photos or attend a video visit?

No. Genital photos and a scheduled video call are not required for this service. A prior diagnosis is required, and a clinician must have enough information to decide whether online treatment is appropriate.

Can I request Valtrex or acyclovir?

You can request treatment with valacyclovir, the generic medicine for Valtrex, or acyclovir. The clinician decides which medicine, dose and course are appropriate. A particular medicine or prescription is not guaranteed.

Can I get daily suppression without a current outbreak?

Yes, adults with a prior diagnosis can request a daily suppressive-treatment assessment even without an active sore. Tell the clinician your outbreak frequency, medical history and treatment goals. Daily treatment does not cure herpes or eliminate transmission risk.

Can you diagnose a first outbreak or order herpes testing?

No. A first possible outbreak, an uncertain diagnosis or testing needs require in-person evaluation. Even with a prior diagnosis, a new or different genital symptom may have another cause.

How soon will a clinician review my visit?

Visits are reviewed 7 days a week, including weekends; timing varies. The clinician may need more information. Pharmacy processing is separate, and same-day medication is not guaranteed.

What if online care is not appropriate?

If the clinician determines that your condition cannot be treated safely online, your visit fee is refunded. The clinician may recommend in-person care. This is not a guarantee of a prescription.

Is community STI screening in Colorado the same as a herpes examination?

No. Denver Health says its community testing program does not provide physical exams or treatment. People with symptoms are directed to a clinical service. Ask whether a location can examine a genital sore and arrange herpes testing when appropriate.
