Nurx vs Bidwell Health — Honest Comparison

By Bidwell Cranage, APRN, FNP-C · Clinically reviewed · Published April 20, 2026

Short answer: Nurx and Bidwell are good at different things. Nurx is a larger, nationwide women's-health-forward telehealth service built around birth control, Plan B, PrEP, migraines, acne, and herpes — services Bidwell does not offer. Bidwell is a small APRN-owned cash-pay practice in 12 states with one flat $45 visit fee, focused on UTI, BV, yeast, ED, hair loss, and bridge refills for chronic meds. If you need contraception, pick Nurx. If you need a one-time visit with no subscription for the conditions we cover, pick Bidwell.

TL;DR

What Nurx is — and isn't

Nurx launched in 2015 and is one of the larger, longer-running women's health telehealth services in the U.S. It's licensed in all 50 states and centers on birth control, emergency contraception (Plan B), PrEP for HIV prevention, at-home HPV and STI testing, migraine treatment, acne, herpes cold sores, and a handful of other primary-care-adjacent services. The company has been through multiple ownership changes and is now a larger organization with a network of licensed providers.

Nurx's core model is fee-per-service with subscription refills. You pay a one-time medical consultation fee (typically $28 for birth control, $15 for a UTI or yeast consult, or up to $75 for some specialty consults), then receive medication shipped to your door with an ongoing $3/month support fee while a subscription is active. It's not exactly subscription-first like Hims, but it's not a one-time-visit clinic either.

Nurx is not a general bridge-refill service. If you take lisinopril, metformin, levothyroxine, or an SSRI and just need a refill, Nurx doesn't cover that.

What Bidwell Health is — and isn't

Bidwell Health is a small Florida-based APRN-owned telehealth practice founded by Bidwell Cranage, APRN, FNP-C, with Ashley Cranage, APRN, FNP-C, as a second provider. We're licensed in 12 states. Every visit is a flat $45 one-time fee — no subscription, no membership, no auto-renewal. We treat UTIs, BV, yeast infections, ED, hair loss, and prescription bridge refills for stable non-controlled chronic medications.

Bidwell does not do contraception, Plan B, PrEP, acne, migraine, or herpes suppression. Those are Nurx's strengths. We're also not nationwide and we're not a large catalog.

Pricing comparison

This is where the two services diverge. Nurx has different consult fees for different conditions, plus a monthly support fee when a subscription is active. Bidwell has one flat $45 price that covers any visit we do.

Which is better for each use case?

Birth control, Plan B, and PrEP

NURX This is Nurx's core product. Contraception (pills, patch, ring, shot), Plan B emergency contraception, and PrEP for HIV prevention are all well-built offerings. Prescriptions can ship to your door. Year-long provider messaging is included in the $28 fee. Nationwide. If you need any of these, Nurx is the right choice.

BIDWELL We do not offer ongoing contraception, Plan B, or PrEP. This is a clear "use Nurx" category. We considered adding contraception to our catalog but it's a different long-term care model and Nurx does it well — we don't want to half-build something they already do well.

UTI, BV, and yeast infections

NURX Nurx treats UTI and yeast at a $15 consult fee, prescription to your pharmacy or shipped. Fast, nationwide, well-tested. Good fit if you want the cheapest single-service visit possible for a straightforward UTI.

BIDWELL Bidwell treats UTI, BV, and yeast at a flat $45 per visit with same- or next-day turnaround and medication at your pharmacy (nitrofurantoin or Bactrim typically under $15 with GoodRx). We're more expensive per-visit than Nurx for a single UTI, but if you need a UTI plus a bridge refill or an ED script in the same month, the $45 flat covers any of our services.

Erectile dysfunction (ED)

BIDWELL Nurx's catalog does not center on ED. Bidwell prescribes sildenafil and tadalafil at a flat $45 visit. Generic sildenafil 20mg (used off-label for ED) is often $4–$20 at most U.S. pharmacies with GoodRx. For ED specifically, Bidwell is the right pick between these two.

Hair loss

BIDWELL Nurx does not have a hair-loss product for men. Bidwell prescribes finasteride or topical minoxidil at a $45 visit, filled at your pharmacy. Between the two, Bidwell is the only practical answer.

Migraines, acne, and herpes

NURX Nurx treats these at $15–$75 per consult. We don't treat any of them. For acne medications (tretinoin, topical antibiotics), migraine triptans, or herpes suppression, Nurx is the right answer.

Prescription refills (bridge refills)

BIDWELL This is where Bidwell has the clearest advantage. Nurx does not treat blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, SSRIs, statins, or inhalers. Bidwell's $45 flat bridge refill covers a 90-day prescription for the 15 most common non-controlled chronic medications. If you take lisinopril, metformin, levothyroxine, sertraline, or a statin and need a refill between PCP visits, Nurx can't help. Bidwell can.

Speed and turnaround time

Both services are async-first. Nurx's consult turnaround varies by state and condition; UTI evaluations are typically same- or next-day, and birth-control consults are usually turned around within 24 hours. Medication ships in a few days for subscription orders. Bidwell turnaround is 15 minutes to a few hours for uncomplicated bridge refills during business hours, and same- or next-day for UTI/BV/yeast visits, with the prescription sent directly to your pharmacy for same-day pickup.

Who actually signs your prescription?

NURX Nurx uses a network of licensed U.S. physicians and nurse practitioners. Providers rotate based on state and condition; you don't generally choose your provider.

BIDWELL Two named APRNs, both publicly listed at providers.html with license numbers and state authorizations. The same person reviews your intake and signs your prescription. Small-practice vibe versus large network — different, not better or worse.

Coverage areas

Nurx is licensed in all 50 states plus DC, though some condition-specific services vary by state.

Bidwell Health is licensed in 12 states:

If you live outside these 12 states, Nurx is the practical answer for any service both of us could cover.

HIPAA and privacy

Both platforms are HIPAA-compliant. Nurx has operated since 2015 and has a mature privacy program. Bidwell Health uses HIPAA-compliant Supabase and Stripe infrastructure with signed Business Associate Agreements. Your protected health information is held to the same federal standard at both services.

Where Nurx wins

Where Bidwell wins

Real talk: Nurx is a legitimate, well-established service. For contraception, Plan B, PrEP, migraines, acne, or herpes, they're the right answer — we don't compete on those and won't pretend we do. This comparison exists because patients searching "Nurx vs Bidwell" deserve a clear read, not a hit piece.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nurx or Bidwell cheaper for a UTI?

Nurx is cheaper per-UTI-visit ($15 consult vs $45 flat at Bidwell). If a single UTI is all you need and you live anywhere in the U.S., Nurx is a reasonable pick. Bidwell's $45 is flat across any of our six conditions, so it's better value when you have multiple needs (UTI plus a refill, for example).

Can I get birth control from Bidwell?

No. We do not prescribe or manage contraception, Plan B, or PrEP. For those, use Nurx.

Is Nurx legitimate?

Yes. Nurx has operated since 2015 under licensed U.S. medical providers and is HIPAA-compliant. It's one of the longer-running women's health telehealth services in the country.

Does Nurx do bridge refills?

No. Nurx treats specific women's-health and primary-care-adjacent conditions (birth control, Plan B, PrEP, migraines, acne, herpes, HPV). It does not issue refills for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, SSRIs, or other general primary-care medications. Bidwell's $45 bridge refill is built for exactly that.

What states does Bidwell cover?

Florida, New York, Virginia, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, and Utah. We're expanding over time; state list at states.html.

Can I use insurance at either service?

Nurx does not submit consult fees to insurance but may apply insurance to shipped medication. Bidwell is fully cash-pay for the visit; your pharmacy insurance can still apply to the medication at pickup.

Is the $45 visit really all I pay at Bidwell?

Yes for the visit. The medication is a separate pharmacy charge you control. For generics with GoodRx, most of our medications are $4–$15 for 90 days.

How fast is Nurx vs Bidwell?

Comparable. Nurx consults are typically turned around within 24 hours; medication shipping takes a few days. Bidwell turnaround is usually 15 minutes to a few hours for bridge refills during business hours, with the prescription sent directly to your pharmacy for same-day pickup.
