Who can request a bridge refill?
This service is for adults 18 and older who are physically in a supported state during the visit and already take a stable, non-controlled medication.
- To request this visit, you must confirm the same dose for at least 6 months, no dose change in the last 3 months and no requested increase or decrease.
- You feel stable, with no new concerning symptoms, recent ER visit, hospitalization or significant side effects.
- Required medication-monitoring labs are within the last 12 months. The clinician may need more recent information for your situation.
- You need a temporary bridge while arranging ongoing care, rather than a new diagnosis or long-term medication management.
Refilling an inhaler and reviewing whether asthma is well controlled are different decisions. Keep ongoing asthma follow-up and follow the action plan your clinician has given you.

Have your inhaler label and symptom history ready
- Readable photos of the prescription label and product name. If the inhaler and pharmacy box show different details, have both available so the clinician can identify the medicine, strength and device.
- How often you use your inhaler, whether that has increased and whether you have symptoms at rest or at night. Be accurate about recent symptoms even if you mainly need a refill.
- When you last used the medicine, how much remains, your current directions and how long the prescription has been unchanged.
- Your other asthma medicines, allergies, recent urgent-care or ER visits and any changes to your usual asthma action plan. Choose the pharmacy where you want an approved prescription sent.
Albuterol inhaler and other existing asthma medication guides
Albuterol is used as a quick-relief medicine in some prescribed asthma plans. An albuterol refill request still requires review of your symptoms and recent use. Needing it more often can signal that a routine refill is not enough.
Montelukast is an oral medication, not an inhaler or a treatment for an acute asthma attack. Its existing guide is included for people already prescribed it. Do not substitute it for an inhaler or switch devices, strengths or treatment plans without clinical advice.
Your inhaler is running low: refill request or urgent care?
If your breathing is at its usual baseline, check with the pharmacy for remaining refills and contact your usual prescriber about renewal. A stable prescription may be suitable for a bridge assessment. If you are using a rescue inhaler more often, waking with symptoms or getting less relief, seek prompt assessment rather than treating the problem as just an empty inhaler.
Where can I get a prescription refill?
If authorized refills remain, ask your pharmacy to fill one first. If you need a new prescription, choose care based on your symptoms, monitoring needs and access to your usual prescriber.

You can choose a local or mail-order pharmacy. Confirm the price and expected fill or delivery time directly with it. If you need a physical examination, testing, a dose adjustment or ongoing care, your primary care clinician, specialist or an appropriate in-person service is a better fit.

When to get care instead of requesting a bridge refill
This service is not appropriate for trouble breathing, chest tightness at rest, blue lips, severe wheezing, frequent rescue-inhaler use, recent ER visit, oxygen issues, or any worsening symptoms that need urgent care. Those situations need urgent care, primary care, or specialist evaluation rather than a bridge refill.
Call 911 if breathing is very difficult, your lips look blue, or your prescribed medicines are not relieving an asthma attack. Do not wait for an online refill response.
Asthma inhaler refill questions
Can I stop using my asthma inhaler if I feel well?
Follow your prescribed asthma action plan. A daily controller helps prevent symptoms and attacks, so do not stop it just because you feel well without asking your clinician. A rescue inhaler such as albuterol has a different role and should be used as prescribed, not automatically on a daily schedule. If you are running out, contact your prescriber or pharmacist. Worsening breathing or rescue treatment that is not helping needs prompt or emergency assessment, not a routine refill.
Can a pharmacist give me an emergency supply?
Sometimes. A pharmacist may be able to provide a limited emergency supply when your prescriber cannot be reached, depending on state law, the medication and the pharmacist's assessment. Start with the pharmacy that last filled your prescription and have the label available. An emergency supply is not guaranteed, and the permitted amount varies. Ask what is possible before relying on this option.
Can urgent care refill my prescription?
An urgent care or walk-in clinic may be able to assess a refill request, especially when you need an examination or cannot reach your usual prescriber. Call first to ask whether the clinic handles your medication, what records to bring and how it charges for the visit or testing. Its clinician decides whether to prescribe. Urgent care does not replace emergency care for severe symptoms.
Can I get an albuterol refill without an office appointment?
An eligible adult with an established, stable prescription may be assessed online without a scheduled video visit. A clinician must review the request and may need more information or recommend in-person care. This does not replace evaluation of new breathing symptoms.
What if my inhaler has run out and I am wheezing?
Current breathing symptoms can require urgent or emergency treatment. Do not wait for an online refill if breathing is difficult or your prescribed rescue treatment is not helping. This service is for stable medication continuity, not treatment of an asthma attack.
Can I request a controller inhaler or a different inhaler?
Enter the exact medicine and device you already use. The clinician decides whether that established prescription is within scope and safe to continue. A different inhaler, a new diagnosis or a change in treatment needs appropriate clinical evaluation; availability is not guaranteed.
How much does an online asthma refill visit cost?
The visit is $45 and includes clinical assessment, a treatment decision and follow-up messaging about that visit. Medication is paid separately at your chosen pharmacy. There is no required subscription. The pharmacy determines the medication price; a prescription is issued only if appropriate.
Can I use the service without insurance?
Yes. Bidwell is cash-pay and does not bill insurance for the $45 visit. Ask your pharmacy about your medication cost and whether it can use your prescription coverage or an available discount. Those arrangements are separate from the visit.
How quickly is the refill reviewed, including on weekends?
Visits are reviewed 7 days a week, including weekends; timing varies. Additional information may be needed before a decision. Pharmacy hours, stock and processing also affect when an approved prescription is ready. Do not rely on this service for urgent or emergency needs.
How much medication can be prescribed?
A one-time bridge may cover up to 90 days when clinically appropriate, either as 90 days with no refills or 30 days with two refills. The clinician makes the final decision. This does not replace ongoing care or guarantee the requested amount.
What if online care is not appropriate?
You receive a full refund when a clinician determines that your case cannot be safely or appropriately treated through Bidwell Health, including when we refer you to in person care. The fee pays for an assessment, not a guaranteed prescription. A completed assessment that finds no prescription indicated is not automatically refundable.
