Why the subscription price is mostly not medicine
Over a year at 15 sildenafil tablets a month, Hims costs $780 to $1,140 and Ro, Rex MD and Peter MD cost $1,080. Two $45 Bidwell Health visits plus the same generic cost about $160 through Cost Plus Drugs or $248 to $397 with a coupon at a chain. Subtract the pharmacy price of the tablets from any subscription bill and what remains, 64 to 98 percent of it at the four largest brands, is the subscription: the bundled consultation, shipping, packaging and margin. What the $45 visit does and does not include
The $45 covers a licensed clinician's review of your online intake, the prescription decision, and messaging about the visit. It does not include medication, which you pay for at the pharmacy you choose, and it is refunded if treatment is not clinically appropriate. The standard ED prescription is written for six months (45 tablets plus one refill, 15 tablets a month), so a year is two visits. Nothing renews and nothing ships from Bidwell Health.
When a subscription is cheaper
At six sildenafil tablets a month filled at a chain pharmacy, the two discount subscriptions, Friday Plans at $1.99 a tablet and Rocket Rx from $1.50, come in below a $45 visit plus coupon-priced tablets, because their per-pill premium on a handful of tablets adds up to less than two visit fees. Neither beats the Cost Plus Drugs route, and on tadalafil neither is close at any quantity. Optum Store and Amazon One Medical charge less than $45 for the visit itself.
