When metronidazole may fit
Metronidazole may fit adults with symptoms typical of BV, such as thin discharge, odor, and irritation, when the intake does not suggest a more urgent or different diagnosis.
When online BV treatment may not be appropriate
Pregnancy, pelvic pain, fever, STI exposure, unusual bleeding, severe symptoms, or repeated treatment failure may require in-person testing or evaluation.

Can metronidazole be prescribed for a male BV partner?
Yes, after his own assessment. For an eligible ongoing male partner of someone with clinician-diagnosed BV, Bidwell may prescribe oral metronidazole together with externally applied clindamycin 2% cream. Oral tablets alone and vaginal metronidazole gel are not interchangeable with this partner regimen.
