Itching and white discharge
Intense itching with thick white discharge often suggests yeast infection, but the diagnosis is less clear when odor, pelvic pain, sores, or STI exposure are present.

Pattern that often suggests yeast
- Intense itching
- Thick white discharge
- Redness or irritation
- Usually no strong fishy odor
Red flags or alternate diagnoses
- Fishy odor or thin discharge, which can suggest BV
- Green/yellow discharge, sores, pelvic pain, fever, or STI exposure
- Pregnancy, or symptoms for which a clinician recommends an examination or testing
