## BV recurrence and symptom assessment

Recurrent BV: acute episodes receive individual clinician review. Persistent symptoms or repeated treatment failure may require testing and ongoing care; long-term suppression is outside the routine visit. Recurrent UTI remains outside the routine UTI pathway. Symptoms alone do not confirm BV, yeast or UTI.

## BV male partner treatment

Service information updated October 6, 2026. Bidwell Health treats eligible ongoing adult male partners of someone with clinician-diagnosed bacterial vaginosis through a separate $45 online visit. The purpose is to help reduce BV recurrence in the diagnosed partner, not to diagnose vaginal BV in the male patient. The male partner may have no symptoms. Each person completes their own assessment; prescriptions depend on clinician review. Adults must be physically in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Virginia or Washington. No scheduled video call or insurance is required; medication is paid separately at the chosen pharmacy.

When clinically appropriate, male partner treatment combines oral metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for 7 days with clindamycin 2% cream applied externally to the penile head and shaft twice daily for 7 days. This external use is off-label. It is not vaginal metronidazole gel or a clindamycin 1% acne product. Updated guidance supports concurrent partner treatment, especially for recurrent symptomatic BV; first or uncertain episodes require individual discussion. The diagnosed partner's own treatment and any needed recurrent-BV workup remain separate.

New urinary/genital symptoms, sores, discharge, testicular pain, STI concerns and other disqualifying safety answers require in-person evaluation instead of routine online partner treatment. Coordinate treatment and avoid sexual contact until both courses are complete. Avoid alcohol and oral propylene glycol during metronidazole and for at least 72 hours after the final dose; follow the cream's latex-barrier precautions. Treatment is not guaranteed to prevent recurrence.
